Dance World Cup for Children and Junior
Dance Students
Tuesday 28th June to Saturday 2nd July 2011
Hotel Newport Bay Club Convention Center at Disneyland ®, Paris, France
Rules of the Competition
1. Organiser
The competition is being organized by the Dance World Cup Association,
a non profit association, in co-operation with similar dance associations
world-wide.
2. Participation
All dances that want to participate in this competition have to qualify
by winning a first or second prize in a national dance competition in their
home countries. In each competition class a maximum of two dances per country,
or three by exception, may enter.
In case there are no dance competitions at all being organised in a country,
schools may apply for participation by sending a video. The video has to show
the students that want to enter. On the video no costumes are necessary yet
may be worn. The video has to be sent to Ballettförderkreis München
e.V., Franz-Joseph-Str. 38, 80801 Munich, Germany. Closing date for the entry
of videos is February 1 of the year where the competition takes place. Together
with the video an entry fee of Euro 20,- has to be paid.
All participants have to be students of private ballet- or dance schools..
All nationalities are admitted. Entries have to be made through the dance
school. Closing date in general is two months prior to the competition itself.
The precise closing date for the current year you find on the site with the
information of that year. All entries have to be sent
to Ballettförderkreis München e.V., Franz-Joseph-Str. 38, 80801
Munich, Germany, E-mail info@bfkm.de
.
3. Age
The precise age of the candidates on March 1, of the year where the competition
takes place is being counted. In duets, trios and group dances the age of
the oldest candidate counts for the category where the dance is being put.
4. Point Shoes
In all children’s classes point shoes are not permitted throughout the
whole competition. Girls under the age or 12 years are not permitted to wear
point shoes at all. In case girls of the age of 12 to 13 years want to dance
in point shoes, they have to dance in the Junior class.
5. Restriction in participation
Only those dances may perform that qualified for the competition. Yet dancers
may be exchanged. That means, it is not necessary that precisely the same
dancers perform in the world cup that performed in the qualification competition.
In a duet or trio not more than one dancer may be changed.
A dancer may not perform more than 2 solo dances. These two dances have to
be in different categories of style.
In all Duet / Trio classes each dancer may perform once only within a certain
class. However a dancer may perform in as many different Duet / Trio classes
according to where he or she is qualified.
6. Time Limit
Every single dance must not be longer than the time permitted in this
class. Yet it may be shorter. In case a dance is too long it will be disqualified.
7. Music
Any music may be used. The music has to be recorded on CD . On every CD
there has to be written: Title of the dance – name of the school – country
– Registration number of the dance. Mini Disk or Dat are not possible.
8. Judging
Three internationally acknowledged dancers, dance teachers or registered
adjudicators are the judges. To every dance points are given. The highest
possible number of points is 100. Decisions of the jury cannot be changed,
they are final. A dance has to achieve at least 85 points to get a first place
or 80 points to get a second or third place. If a dance does not get that
many points, this place is not given. If two dances get the same number of
points, two first, second or third places are given. If in a certain class
the quality of the dances is not high enough it is possible not to give any
place at all.
These are the judging criteria with a maximum of 20 points in each section:
General comments on the whole presentation.
9. Classes
The organising committee has the right to put two small classes together
into one or to divide a large class into two.
10. Stage
The competition is taking place in a theatre. Precise information about
the size of the stage you find on the site with the information of that year.
11. Admission to the Theatre
All participants as well as up to two teachers from each school have free
admission to the theatre. They receive an identity card which has to be worn
visibly. All other spectators have to pay an entry fee. Parents have no access
to the dressing rooms and back stage unless they are registered assistants
of the teachers. The whole competition apart from the rehearsals is open to
the public.
12. Rehearsals
There are rehearsals most probably one day prior to the competition itself.
The schedule for the rehearsals will be made after the closing date of entries.
Each school has to stick to the time limit that is given for the rehearsal.
13. Costumes
In all classes costumes of free choice may be worn. The costumes should
underline the character of the dance. Extraordinarily valuable costumes do
not have any influence on the judging of the dance.
14. Gala of the Winners
On the last day of the competition there will be the Gala performance of the
best participants of the competition. The jury and the organising committee
decide together which dances will be invited to perform at the Gala. It is
possible that a dance is invited although it did not get any prize. It is
just as well possible that a dance is not invited although it achieved a prize.
15. Entry Fees
The entry fee per dance is € 20,- for each solo dance, € 15,- per dancer
in each duet, or trio € 12,- per dancer in each group dance.
16. Insurance
The Dance World Cup Association is not responsible for any injuries that may occur to a dancer while being in the theatre or on stage.
17. Travel
The participants have to care and pay themselves for their travel expenses and their lodging.

At registration, please, state the style of the dance as clearly
as possible.
In order to avoid possible misunderstanding and in order to make it easier
to decide into which class a dance has to be put, the meaning of each category
is explained.
Mini:
In the age class 9 years and younger no splitting into different categories
is made. Every style of dance is permitted. Nevertheless, please, state the
style of the dance as clearly as possible. In case there are many registrations
these classes may be split into different categories
Classical Ballet:
These are all dances including demi character where classical ballet steps
are the basis of the dance. They may be purely classical ballet dances but
they may just as well be dances that tell a story or that present certain
characters e.g. animals, figures from fairy tales or similar characters. If,
however, in a character dance the movements are more modern than classical
ballet, then this dance should be put into the modern classes. Preferably
classical music should be used, in the junior classes classical music has
to be used.
National, Folklore, Character:
These are all dances that show the typical way of dancing in a certain
country. The basic steps of such a dance may come from classical ballet but
they may just as well come from a totally different dance style. In any case
the music should be typical for the country.
Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Show Dance:
These are all dances with various modern movements. They may be based
on classical ballet in the widest sense, they may be contemporary.
Jazzdance
These are all dances which use Jazz music of any type and with jazz movements
accordingly
Hip Hop and Breakdance
All dances that are performed in this typical style and with such music.
Song and Dance
These are all dances where singing is included in the dance. In case of
live singing a maximum of 3 microphones to hold in the hands are available.
Singing and dancing should be split up about 50% each.
Tap Dance:
These are all dances with tap shoes provided they do not fit into another
category. In case of an Irish dance in hard shoes e.g. it is the choice of
the choreographer whether he wants to put this dance into the category "Folklore"
or "Tap Dance".
It is permitted to perform tap dance without music. Yet the dance has to start
and end with music, and the à capella section may only be in the middle
of the dance.
Registration:
Registration should be made via E-mail to info@bfkm.de , unless stated differently in the information about the event of a special year, and it should contain the following information:
