The leading dance competition for children and young dance students in Nigeria is the "Opal Award" which takes place in Lagos every year. Nigeria has a large variety of national dances. Classical ballet is taught as well, yet it is not that wide spread yet.

The winners of Opal Award will participate in the Dance World
Cup in Germany. Dancers from Nigeria that wish to participate in the Dance
World Cup have to qualify through the Opal Award Competition.
